The materials used when creating the Comic Book Poem New Material were ProMarker Pens, Fineliners and watercolour paints. I wanted to create a colourful image that would stand out.
I created the Comic Book Poem on the physical page and then scanned the artwork into my computer. The temptation here is to tidy the image up using digital techniques. I wanted to shy away from this as it could remove the tactile nature of the Comic Book Poem.
New Material focuses the face of an unnamed protagonist. We see the face from different angles and points of view. Each panel shows a close up and we focus in really tight. I wanted to use the technique of the close up to allow us to empathise with the character more.
As the text was somewhat sparse and non-sequitor I wanted to convey the emotion and passion, thorough our identity with the main and sole character of the Comic Book Poem.
