For New Material I wanted to carry on the tradition of experimentation by creating a poem that uses short, sharp, sentences and paints an abstract picture. For the content I was almost trying to evoke abstract landscape poetry, by creating a brief location and implying that an individual is present.
As well as the minimal landscape we see the recurring Comic Book Poem themes of division and longing. The difference here though is that the sense of longing is emphasised by the introduction of a second character. The text is below, but New Material is best experienced when you view the two pages of the Comic Book Poem.
New Material
The cold throat sky
The green threads of grass
Over and over you
Fingernail grey
mounds and mounds of dirt
between all of us
I walk all around
But you never see
The distance apart
Look into my face
get real close
Now you know what is missing
I’m missing all of you
