As stated in the Writing a Comic Book Poem – Harder They Come blog post, I noted that the story was created first, then the artwork and then the text. For the design I wanted to create a clean and simple design. Therefore the comic is totally black and white. I wanted to create generic characters, a simple landscape and uncomplicated buildings. I chose this method as I didn’t want to create something complex and difficult to read. If the visuals were dictating the story, I didn’t want to leave room for interpretation.
When the text was added I wanted this to stand out and seem slightly different from the illustrations. To do this I decided to make the text bright red and obvious. This shows that it stands out from the panel and could be seen as something completely different. Take a look at the Comic Book Poem and see if The Harder They Come works or not.
